History
Solan became a District of Himachal Pradesh on 1st September, 1972. It was carved out of Solan and Arki Tehsils of the then Mahasu District and Kandaghat and Nalagarh Tehsils of the then Shimla District. The District is divided into four Sub-Divisions (Solan, Nalagarh, Arki and Kandaghat), five Tehsils (Arki, Kandaghat, Kasauli, Nalagarh and Solan) and two Sub-Tehsils (Kuthar and Ramshehar). Earlier this District was under the control of District and Sessions Judge, Sirmour at Nahan and District and Sessions Judge, Sirmour at Nahan held circuit court at Solan for a week every month. However the Court of Senior Sub Judge/Rent Controller/Judge Small Cause /Chief Judicial Magistrate exists permanently at Solan.
Later on necessity arose and need of separate Civil and Sessions Division was felt and subsequently this Civil and Sessions Division separated from Sirmour Civil and Sessions Division and separate Court of District and Sessions Judge established at Solan. Shri M. R. Chaudhary was the first District & Sessions Judge. Later on court of Addl. District and Sessions Judge was established at Solan in the year 1995. The Court of Sub Judge, Solan was established at Solan in the year 1995. Court of Add. District and Sessions Judge-2, Solan came into light in the year 2003.The newly establishment Court of Sub Judge, Solan was established in the year 2014. The Court of Add. District and Sessions Judge Nalagarh was started in year 2018-19. The Court of Add. District and Sessions Judge Fast Track Special Court(POCSO) Solan started in year 2020.
